Two weeks…

So I’ve been meaning to update. And I’ve been trying to but it seems every time I do all I write about is the same thing. I have been getting increasingly more nervous every day though. A month turned into three weeks, and now it will be two weeks soon. I still feel like I have a ton of stuff to do before I can say I’m ready to leave.

I ended up getting an early refund from financial aid, which was a huge relief. I haven’t exchanged any money and unfortunately haven’t even looking into doing so yet. That’s on a to do list for this week. I also got a credit card that I can use for emergencies and big purchases. The awesome things is that the card is interest free until April of next year. But I plan on paying off whatever I spend when I come home in January.

I also got my visa recently. I’m really glad there is a consulate close by. A few people on the Kansai Gaidai facebook page mentioned having to overnight their COE and passport to a consulate. Granted driving downtown and paying for the crazy expensive parking isn’t fun, but it was still a relatively easy process.

I’ve been buying things that I figured I’d have a harder time locating once I get there too. Hopefully I can buy most things I need then. My biggest challenge is going to be packing. We are allowed two suitcases under fifty pounds. Sometimes I think I’ll pull it off, other times I know for sure I won’t. I just keep reminding myself that I’ll have more to bring back than what I’m taking and I need to leave some room.

I’m a huge mix of excitement and nervousness. Add some slight sadness in that is waiting to come to surface as well. Either way I’m still counting down the days. In three weeks I will be in Osaka with Peter, Jess and hopefully some new friends before heading off to school. I can’t wait!

    Dana,

Nice blog you have here! There’s this really strange feeling about countdowns, indeed. I have never in my life waited so badly for something. I mean, I did my share of waiting through the years, but this time it is the hardest of all.

Like you, I have got myself a credit card for emergencies but I haven’t sorted out exchanging money yet – I keep putting it off, but hopefully I will get there this week!

Packing is…. scary! I think over the past week I realized how all my previous plans about what I will take will HAVE to change. All the winter clothes I had been preparing will just wait for me in my closet in Egypt! 😀

I hope you don’t mind it if I added a link to your blog on my homepage?

Hi Dana! I’m Elle, and I’m going to Kansai Gaidai this fall as well! 🙂 I found you through another student’s blog!

I’m really excited to leave, I’m leaving on the 18th and staying in Tokyo and Kyoto with a friend until orientation. It’s my first time going to Japan! I’m a little nervous, but mostly way pumped. Hopefully I’ll see you around at orientation and on campus! 🙂

    Dina,

I definitely don’t mind you adding me! I should probably add some links on my blog as well. I’ve been trying to keep up with the blogs of the other people going to Japan 🙂

I’m only going for the fall semester, but I still don’t know how to pack. I know its going to be really hot and humid when we get there but I think its supposed to cool down a little bit. Being from Michigan its cold here 8 months out of the year so I mostly only have warmer clothes!

    Elle,

Haha yeah I think we all are starting to find each other and comment through the blogs. For me it kind of makes it more real to read about everyone doing the same things I am, since it still hasn’t set in 100% yet.

Its my first time going to Japan as well! I’ve never been outside of the U.S actually, so its pretty much a whole set of new experiences for me.

I hope you have fun going early and exploring. I’ll be in Osaka for a few days until heading to Hirakata for orientation. I’ll definitely keep an eye open for you though 🙂

    Jasmine,

Ahh, I already know I’m going to want to stay for the whole year too! But I plan on going back to Japan for another program, so at least I can look forward to that too. Haha I also need to graduate!! I’m a super *super* senior.

One of my good friends is in same program as me so I’m glad I at least have him going with me. There are a lot of people from my school going too.

I’ll link your blog on here too! I don’t mind you linking back here at all either 🙂
